BIOGRAPHY
Dilek Bektaşoğlu Sanlı is a co-founder of the firm and is widely regarded as one of the foremost practitioners in Turkish insurance and transport law. Dilek has practised transport and insurance law since the outset of her career. Over three decades, she has developed a practice focused on high-profile and market-sensitive insurance matters, alongside a substantial shipping and transport practice.
Dilek advises a broad portfolio of national and international (re)insurers and loss adjusters. Her practice spans both advisory and contentious matters across a wide range of insurance lines, including coverage analysis, underwriting and regulatory matters and the defence of complex claims, particularly D&O, BBB, PI and fidelity covers, as well as third-party liability, CAR, product liability across a broad range of industries.
Dilek is frequently instructed in high-profile matters, including major banking fraud claims under BBB and PI policies, as well as D&O claims arising from catastrophic industrial and mining incidents. She has extensive experience defending large-scale and group liability claims on behalf of (re)insurers, including logistics, warehousing and product liability disputes involving multinational operators.
She also has a well-established transport and maritime practice. Her experience includes shipbuilding and repair contracts, ship finance, charter party disputes and ship arrests. She regularly acts for leading shipyards in Tuzla on shipbuilding, repair and conversion projects, including innovative offshore works, as well as for foreign banks on ship finance transactions.
Dilek has extensive experience in litigation, arbitration and mediation, both in Turkey and cross-border, and is regularly instructed to provide expert legal opinions on Turkish insurance and transport law to foreign courts and arbitral tribunals. She is a frequent speaker at domestic and international conferences and has various publications on insurance, transport and maritime law. She is a co-author of the Ship Building Contracts chapter of the International Encyclopaedia of Laws Transport Law in Türkiye, published by Kluwer Law International.
Her practice is characterised by the ability to manage technically demanding matters with precision, rapidly identifying the critical legal and factual issues and translating them into clear, solution-oriented strategies.
